Edit Parameter Window

Hi,

In BIRT 2.1, is there a way we can edit the contents on the Parameter window, for example remove or change the sentence "Parameters mark with * are required" or maybe add a text box to place a short note or info. or maybe add a calendar for date parameters.

Hi BIRTigo,

You can change the default messages that gets displayed in the BIRT Designer or Web Viewer in a file called Messages.properties.

This file is located inside the viewservlets.jar so you have to extract everything, make the change, and then rejar. For your particular label, you would change the line that says:

birt.viewer.required=Parameters marked with <FONT COLOR="red">*</FONT> are required.

To change what the designer uses for defaults, you need to use viewservlets.jar from the eclipsepluginsorg.eclipse.birt.report.viewer_2.3.0.v20080606birtWEB-INFlib directory.

For the web viewer, you need to use viewservlets.jar from the WebViewerExampleWEB-INFlib directory.

To get other things changed, you can customize the JSPs that the Web Viewer uses or a better approach is to create your own custom parameter page using JSP or whatever and then pass the correct parameters on the URL to the Web Viewer servlets to generate the report. This gives you the most control and lets you add custom components like calendar controls, etc.
