How to improve report genarating and viewing performance?

Currently , I need to generate BIRT reports which are using scripted data source that gets data through hibernate.

The report need to be viewed in BIRT web viewer using birt runtime engine.

If lets say the total of records is about a few hundreds thousands of records, how can i improve the performance generating and displaying the reports in web page?

Any suggestion on how to tune the performance?

Performance typically comes from how the report is designed. Certain ways to do things that help the report perform better. Here is a link to a post in the devShare about designing high performance BIRT reports:
