TOC Performance

LetsBIRT

I have about 14 different group sections in my report and each group section is included in the TOC, but when i run the report and try to look at the TOC in the viewer, the TOC does not populate, it says "Processing, Please wait..." and that goes on for ever, i am sure that its trying to populate but its too long a wait to not stop executing the report. The data is not much. Is there a way to increase the performance?

yes thats correct. 
Thanks for the tips on creating higher performance BIRT reports...its good information, but i do not see anything for TOC.

I posted the webinar link just for general performance improvement. It wasn't about the TOC. There's also a link to the archived webinar on that page.

As for the TOC performance issue, I don't think there is anything that can be done about that. Are you doing any custom TOC expressions in your report?

there is no custom TOC expression, just the direct datarow.

Actually, there are custom expressions that can be done on a TOC to include other items in the TOC. If you click on a report item, you can see the Table of Contents section in the property editor where you can create an expression. You just can't use the expression to change what BIRT does for the TOC by default (i.e. omitting table groups).

yes, but i need the values of the group sections(datarow) in the TOC.

Ok. The reason for my question about custom expressions was only to say that if you were doing any of that, the time to process the TOC would be longer. If not, I don't believe there is any way to speed up the TOC.
