BIRT reporting - best practices

The way I see it, you should have one and only BIRT Viewer application installed on your server. This application should be modified so it can recieve a .rtpdesign file and give the user a link to the report, which he then uses in his own application.

It seems like a good idea to me. But the problem is with security. Database data sources require a password which is encrypted in the .rptdesign.

How can I solve this security problem without having to log into the BIRT viewer?

How are you using the BIRT reporting tools?
