TeamSite problems after installing SP2 on Solaris 8
megamala
I got problem. TeamSite doesn't come up after installing SP2 on Solaris 8.
This is from Support guy
According to the diagnostics which you sent in, you've installed TeamSite 5.5.2 SP2 on a Solaris 8 machine. Unfortunately, there appears to be a bug in SP2 on Solaris 8, which causes iwserver to experience a segmentation fault and terminate.
We're currently working on QAing a patch to resolve this issue. In the meantime, backing out 5.5.2SP2 will allow TeamSite to come back up. I'm also attaching your case to the bug opened on the issue and the patch request for this issue.

Is this confirmed? You're saying the SP2 releases posted on support.interwoven.com around December 21, 2002 cause crashes on Solaris 8? (Downloaded file name= SOL_TS552_SP2_14136d.tar.gz)

I installed SP2 on Solaris 8 (file name= SOL_TS552_SP2_14136d.tar.gz) then TS unable to run. Then I put the case. One of the support guy told me that.

The problem causing the segfault only shows up on TS5.5.2SP2 on Solaris 8 running with certain versions of libnsl. You already know that Interwoven is working on a patch. The only option as of right now is to back out the service pack. The patch is currently in testing and not released as they want to make very sure that this same problem (or others) will not happen again (which I am sure you would not want to happen after installing a patch).
What are you attempting to accomplish by posting here?

I'm glad he's posting here. I was about 2 hours away from driving over to our Sys Admin building and installing that patch on our TS 5.5.2 / Solaris installations.
I downloaded the *.gz in early January, and I probably wouldn't have seen any warning posted on the support.interwoven.com site (if there even is one).

This is the second time Ive seen Interwoven staff query users on this site,
in regards to posting valid bugs to inform the rest of us.
I thought the whole point of this site is for users to share their experiences, with everybody else???
Have I got something wrong here?....
I would rather be told by my peers who have already gone through the hardship, that there is an issue,
so that I can avoid that same path.
Great community you guys are trying to form here!

I think the question was valid - "what are you trying to accomplish by posting here" - the answer seems to be equally valid, "sharing information about an existing problem"
In both cases - the phrasing of the post and the response could have been better. For instance, if the original post had said something like: "FYI, I've spoken to Interwoven Support about this problem and they inform me that a patch ....." - then the intent of the post would have been clear and the response that you object to probably wouldn't have ever been written.
The forums *are* for communication - it's just that different people have different skill levels of communication (and no, I'm not claiming to be an expert in such areas, just a dude doing what I can to make things better in the ways I know how)

This was exactly why I had asked. If his point was to make sure other people knew about the issue he was seeing, then fine, state that (it wasn't all that clear).
I took his original message as asking for help on a problem that no one here on the forum could help with (something that only engineering can fix with a patch).
If anyone takes offense at that, then I am sorry.
