How can i do word Wrap without using substring?

I have one description column it shows more than one line.I want to show only the first line without using substring and all.
For example,
Feedback is going to help make this site even more useful to the BIRT
community - please tell us what you like, don't like and if anything is not
working for you.
Here,
i want to show only the first line
Feedback is going to help make this site even more useful to the BIRT
rest of the lines i dont want.I tried Orphans and Widows options and Advanced properties but i couldn't know how to use.Can you help this?Critical.

Sumathi,

The only way I know of to cut off at 1 line currently is to use a substring. I will double check to see if this has changed in the newest version, 2.3.1, and will post back in this thread if I notice it has.
