Design Question

Hi I have a design problem with the cross tab.

As you can see in the first picture there are lines and empty cells in the left column.

in the layout view (second image) you can see these empty cells much better.

Why the problem exists.

I have a cube with a group containing 6 elements. If I drag the group to the section for the rows in the cross tab I get 6 columns. If I move the elements to other positions as you can see in the second image empty cells remain.

In the column section was the same problem but setting the height to 0px helps here.
Settings the with of the empty cells to 0px don't work in the row section.

In the row area last image you can see the level, each level has a cell but not all cells have content why can't I delete them??

Hi Throndorin,

Can you attach your report design and let me know what version of BIRT you designed it in? Also, if you can recreate this with the sample database, that would be good too because then I could actually run the report. Thanks.

here the report file.

A sample database is not so easy, contour has a database with some tables, as you will see in the select statement. Maybe I can design a database example as the sample of the cross tab.

So, when the crosstab is created, each item is in its own cell? Then you move them around and can't delete the cell it was in? Am I getting this issue correct? Let me know if I'm mistaken.

Nevermind. I opened your report design and tried to create my own crosstab and see that I was understanding correctly. Please file a bug for this at <a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/reportabug.php'>BIRT: Reporting Bugs and Requesting Enhancements</a>. Be sure to include a good description and screenshots like you've done in here. If I find a workaround, I'll post it in here.

As a workaround, you can go into the XML source and delete the sections of the crosstab associated with those blank spaces. Be sure to save a copy of your report before messing with the XML though, just in case you delete something you didn't want to delete.
