Data Cube performance

Hi everybody!

I am new with BIRT and i will begin to develop a project with this tool. I was researching on my own and playing with the tool before starting with my project. I tried to create a data cube for summarization stuff. My question here is: how is the performance in the data cube? I did it based in a join data set.

Hi pavlicic,

That is a difficult question to answer without testing with your data and in your environment. Obviously there will be some processing that happens with the data cube... and additional processing for the joint data set. In general, and this is true for almost every database operation, the more you can offload to the database, the better processing will be.

Thanks very much for your answer! I would like to use data cube to drill down/up several dimensions from data set (in data set i have 4 dimensions and 3 measures) and show some of the dimensions and aggregated measures.

I don't know if this behavior is possible to do it without the data cube using Groups and Aggregations, that is the reason i wanted to know if performance in data cube is good or not.
