Simple Pagination Example

Hi Jason/Micheal, 
 
Is there a sample code for implementing pagination. I have read thru enough forum discussions and other resources but havent got anything that has html pagination at its bare minimum level. 
 
As I understand the Web Viewer example has the navigation bar and pagination, but the source code around that not available. 
 
I have also read thru the John wards blog

Can you explain a little more on what you want?
Are you using the Report Engine API? In the API there are calls to render a specific page or a page range.

Thanks for responding. I have made some progress since I posted this query. Following are some of the important steps in the flow of my code. 
 
1) Initialize report engine 
2) Get IReportRunnable design from birtReportEngine.openReportDesign() 
3) IRunTask runTask = birtReportEngine.createRunTask( design ); 
4) Populate the parameters from request (where clause filter criteria) into runTask 
5) runTask.run(****.rptdocument); 
6) IReportDocument irDoc = birtReportEngine.openReportDocument(****.rptdocument); 
7) IRenderTask renderTask = birtReportEngine.createRenderTask(irDoc); 
8) renderTask.setRenderOption(options); 
9) renderTask.setPageNumber() 
10) renderTask.render(); 
 
Questions: 
 
a) Once the .rptdocument is created how can I reuse it again for rendering subsequent pages. Right now my code creates a new .rptdocument even for page navigation and that i suppose defeats the purpose of pagination. 
b) In a multi user environment, each user run will create a different .rptdocument in the file system with a unique name. How and when to delete these files 
c) Please let me know if my approach is correct or is there a better way.

Nikhil,

A couple of things. In your make sure you only start the report engine once. Wrap in a singelton.

a) when you render all you have to do is open the same report document again. You do not have to recreate it, unless you want to refresh your data.

b) The example viewer deletes these when the session is complete. You will need to put your own scheme in. They are just file system files, so delete as a normal file.

c) Your approach is fine, as long as you only create the engine once. Create new task for each thread and it should be fine.
