Hi,
Pls find the attached snapshot of my pdf report.
My report has several columns and when i export the report into pdf format,
the pdf does not accomodate all the columns that are in the report.(some columns are missing).
Pls suggest me how to solve this problem asap.

Hi Vikas,
What version of BIRT are you using?
bigtruck
Vikas,
PDF output is limited to the size of a physical page, so you have to work with that kept in mind.
Couple tricks to maximize page use are:
- Under masterpages, you can change your masterpage to be landscape layout. Also you can change it to use US legal size paper instead of US letter.
- Also under masterpages you can shrink the masterpage left/right margins which should give you even more room to work with.
Failing all that, I think you can also set a custom page size under masterpages, and make it as wide as you need (assuming you didn't need to print this report).
Hope that helps.

Jason,
My BIRT Designer Version is 2.3.0.v20080606

Bigtruck,
Thanks for the info.
But am not able fix my prob with that.
Though i set masterpage layout, the pdf is still eliminating the columns apart from the first column.
If u have any idea on the java files are responsible for pdf generation, then pls let me know.

Vikas,
Have you tried setting widths for your columns so that they will all fit on a standard page size? Be sure to include your margin sizes when figuring the column widths.
vikasg18
Williams,
Attached is the report, on which i am trying.
Could u pls take the report and run and export it to PDF and check?
Is it displaying all the columns in a PDF?
pls let me know.

This seems to be a bug to me. Please file a bug for this <a class='bbc_url' href='
http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/reportabug.php'>here</a>
. Be sure to include this report design and possibly screen shots along with a good description of the issue. Please post the bug info in here for future reference. Thanks.<br />

Something you can do to get around this is to use the "column area page break". In 2.3.0, there isn't an option to repeat the row headers for each page like there is in 2.3.1 though, so each page of the pdf just includes a single column of the crosstab and not the header information. A nice option if you're not going to print off the report is choosing "Actual Size" as the option on the export pop up box. Then, all the data from each column is printed on one "extra long" page. Let me know if you have any questions.

Williams,
I'm finding that my reports don't repeat column headers in PDF mode until the number of lines for a page break in HTML mode is reached.
Do you know if that issue is fixed in BIRT 2.3.1?
mwilliams
Hi bigtruck,
Are you talking crosstabs or tables or both?
bigtruck
Just plain tables
mwilliams
bigtruck,
What version of BIRT are you using? I made a sample report to test the issue that I think you're talking about and it worked in 2.3.0 and 2.3.1. The page break interval was set to 40 rows. In the web viewer, 3 pages of 40 rows were shown. In PDF, 26 pages of 4 to 5 rows were shown with headers on every page. There were several improvements made to pdf output from 2.2 to 2.3, so if you're using 2.2, you may want to upgrade if you can.
bigtruck
These reports were created in 2.2, but now I am running 2.30 -- Perhaps it's being affected by the creation version?
I will duplicate your experiment and see what results I get.
mwilliams
bigtruck,
If you create an example with the sample database that it doesn't work in, if you can supply me with the report design and maybe a screenshot of where it isn't working, I can take a closer look.
bigtruck
Hi Williams,
I think I have found a way to reproduce the problem.
Select any one of the table columns and set the column visibility to Hide Element in PDF mode only. This seems to be causing the table header not to repeat in PDF mode, until it reaches the number of rows set to force a page break.
I don't know if this is the intended effect or not, but I'm guessing that it might be a bug.
Thanks

Sounds like a bug to me. Please log a bug for this <a class='bbc_url' href='
http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/reportabug.php'>here</a>
. You may want to search the bugs prior to making a new one to make sure it hasn't been reported. Also, please post the bug information in here for future reference. Thanks!
