Dynamically grouping the X-Axis of a Chart

Hello,

Birt version: 2.2.1

I'm trying to dynamically group the X-Axis of a line chart Chart via Javascript. I want to be able to change my grouping from days, months, etc, and maybe the grouping interval.

I've spun my wheels on this on and off for a week and come up with little, so any advice would be greatly appreciated

rk1981, You'll need to name your chart for this example to work. Thanks a lot kclark,I found the same example for someother post of yours and got it working. Thanks! Now we are struck with another issue, we are trying to build a line chart with x-axis as date values(sample data shown below). When we set the X-Axis as "Category axis " we are able to pull the X-axis scale as per dates in the input. In this case the graph doesnt start from X-Y intersection instead it started away from the Y-Axis. Our requirement is to have the graph start from X-Y intersection at 7/31/2012(starting date) Vs unit values. To avoid this the chart from starting away from Y axis, we used non category axis and try to set the scale in scripting,in this case, chart starts at 7/31/2012 vs the unit value,but the scaling is the issue(scalling is not a fixed value here,forst 2 dates have only 2 months inbeteen,rest all are quarters,then last 2 dates are not quarters),so I cannot generalise the scaling as Months/Quarters/Years. If I set the scale interval to Quarters, its actually calculating Quarters based on starting date,so our X-Axis is like 7/31/2012,10/31/2012,1/31/2013...it keeps adding 3 months to the start date. Dont know how to manipulate the scale in this case. I could workout the above solution. but my requirement is, in report interactive viewer, when I select the filter icon and select values, the list of values are getting from the dataset which are detail values. But I need to display summarized values in the 'select values' list. So I tried to use a cube instead. But when I use a cube as datasource of my chart, and apply the above code in beforeFactory(), it is not working, that is x-axis is not changing dynamically. 
 
Can you please give me a solution.

Since long time i am searching for an issue which i couldn't find a solution. Please can i get a solution for that?
 
As mentioned in the above posts grouping for X-Axis is possible using a parameter and the script in beforeFactory.
But i should not give access to the end user to select the parameter. I should hide the parameter but its value should be changed dynamically.
The parameter should be changed dynamically based on the row value which is obtained in the dataset. (what script i should write and where)
 
Going deep into the issue...
I have a dataset with few columns, in which one column is "maximum date value" and one column is "minimum date value" and the third column is "time period"... (like if "max - min > 30" then the value of this column should be "months" and if "max - min < 30" then that column value will be "Days")...these three columns values will be changed dynamically based on the data...
So now based on the value of the third column the parameter has to be changed dynamically...
Like if the third column is "months" then the parameter value should be months and the x-axis should be grouped accordingly, likewise if the column value is years then group x-axis based on years...
So to accomplish this which script i should write and where i should write the script.
 
Please can anyone get a solution for this... That would be great help for me if i get a solution for this...
