Modern Browser Support

I understand that Interwoven's Team Site road Map includes rev's with support for (in this order) IE 6 and Netscape 6. I have not been able to locate this information on the IW web site, it was communicated to me by an IW Consultant.

Anyone have a target date for this support? It's directly effecting internal initiatives to push for XHTML 1.0 adoption.

Our company competes directly with Microsoft in a number of areas, many of our users have long time associations with Open Source software initiatives, and continued adoption depends on support for alternative browsers.

Oddly enough, NS 4.7* is the most stable browser officially supported by Team Site. The recent Visual Editor crash bug with IE 5.5 upgrades to IE 6 underscores this issue. We all know that NS 4.7* is also relentlessly lousy.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of supporting modern versions of Netscape (6 & 7). The reasons for this are well documented and, I believe, well understood by this community. I'll hold off on any outlandish assertions here until someone says,"Use IE and get over it". ;]

I can't imagine that support would be that difficult to accomplish. Current Rev's of Mozilla are capable of limited editing within DCTs. More advanced functionality in particular frames is uneven, and of course visual editor support is not there.

I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts on support for modern browsers, particularly Netscape 6.

I believe the plan is for support for Netscape 7 in an upcoming maintenance release. I do not believe that Netscape 6 will be supported. I think the side effect will be that Mozilla 1.1+ will also be supported (someone else correct me if you know better). IE6 is already supported.

I don't have an exact data, but maybe one of the Product Managers that reads this forum will know for sure.

I agree with your sentiments that TeamSite should support more than just current versions of IE (my personal favorite browser at the moment is Mozilla 1.2.1). The fact is however that the majority of users out there seem to want IE first (it would be nice if this was not the case, but this seems to be the facts of life).

There are Feature Requests open for Netscape/Mozilla support, I would highly suggest that you contact support and have your company(s) listed as interested customers so that your voice is heard.

Thanks for the followup nacks, I'll be sure to register our interest in Netscape/Mozzila support.

Since I started using it this past fall (Bookmarklets, Venkman, and Tabbed Browsing made the difference for me) Mozilla is my development browser of choice as well. I can't recommend enough that people give <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/releases/">Mozilla</a> a try. I've managed to convert all but one of our Dev Team here.

Interestingly,current revs of Mozilla can be used throughout the templating workflow. Netscape 7 however throws errors at the following points:
