Not enough storage is available to process this command in Birt Web Viewer

Hello,
Periodically I've begun to receive the following error from the birt web viewer:
Java.Lang.InternalError Not enough storage is available to process this command.

I'm running the BIRT web viewer version 2.2.1 on Tomcat 5.5 on a Windows Server 2003 machine.

When this occurs, the report will partially display successfully, then will cut off part of the way through and display the error message above.

Once the error occurs, attempts to re run that report will have the same result, however other reports continue running fine.

At this point the only way we've been able to resolve this was restarting the Tomcat process

This is happening on one of our production servers, and as of yet we haven't been able to reproduce this on a test environment. From observation on the production system it seems like the error only crops up after periods of unusually heavy use.

Has anyone else seen this error or have any insight as to what could be causing it? At this point our thinking is that somewhere along the line garbage collection isn't recovering all of the memory it should be.

4 years later, upgrading to 3.7.2 and we are still having this issue. I'm surprised no one else has run in to this issue.
