first create a data source ...<br />
<br />
then add that data source to teh dataset using this Method:<br />
<br />
dataSetHandle.setDataSource("data source name");<br />
<br />
where dataSetHandle is teh reference of OdaDataSetHandle.<br />
<br />
THe examlples in this link may give u a detailed idea for creating an entire rptdesign file using Design Engine apis.<br />

Hi Ravind,
Thanks for your reply, i am able to create the dataset and datasource but how link the dataset with the data item?Is there any code snippet.The example link is not working.

dear friend,
i cud not understand what ur requirement is by binding the data item with the data set....
anyways u can use this method
"setDataset(DataSetHandle arg0) : ReportItemHandle"
ie it takes a DataSetHandle reference as argument and returns a ReportItemHandle reference.
Generaly u create a ReusltsetColumn or a computed column and then u associate that with the dataset. Binding a data set to a DataItem displays only one value in that element.For example if there are abt 20 or 30 values in that column only the top column is displayed in the dataItem on binding it to that dataset column.
the link i gave u is currently not working .....(but keep trying ) bcos sometimes there might be some maintenance work going on.
BUt frind i went thru all those examples but cud not find anyone as per ur requirent..........(binding the data item to the dataset.)
If u want those programs just drop me a word............ i ll cut and paste that code in here
