BIRT - Java .vs. VB version ...
Pass_BIRT
Guys & Gals,
As BIRT is an Actuate influenced/sponsored product, is there any likelihood that there will be a VB version of this product available in the near future in addition to the Java-based BIRT that most of us are working with?
If you have worked with Actuate products in the past like myself, you'll know what I'm talking about!
Thanks

This is definitely not happening in the "near" future. Are you trying to integrate a BIRT report into a .NET web application? If so, you should have a look at the BIRT Deployment Kit from Actuate. This provides a robust JavaScript API for integrating a BIRT report viewer into any web application that supports JavaScript.

I have some experience with the old "VB" version and BIRT. I don't see the point in supporting a "VB" version. The new version is so much better.

I would tend to agree. However, in the now almost 10 years that I have been working with Actuate products when I started out with 3.51 Actuate Developer Workbench, Actuate VB has been a constant and re-occuring theme in their products even despite the introduction of a Java-based version of Actuate (in Actuate 5), so I guess it's worth asking.

You probably have more experience than I do with Actuate, but i am pretty sure this is much different than the previous Java support in Actuate (I've been talking with a person over the last 9 years who has worked with it 10+).
Guess it doesn't hurt to ask though.
The main language for developing reports is not Java though. It is Javascript. You can do BIRT (Actuate) without any Java. Having done VB over the last 14 years - VB would be a major step backwards. I am hoping their Performancesoft products will switch to Java.
