Chart Format: Missing Line format options
dee-em
Hi everyone
Sorry if this is a blatantly obviously issue (I'm new to BIRT - used it just a few days).
I have 3 values on my Y axis (3 Series) and it's a bar chart. I wanted to change the format so that each value displays in a different colour. However, under Format Chart for the Series, I only get the option to change "Series Outline". No options for the "Line" - eg: Style, Width, Color, Shadow.
I have attached a jpg of what I see, versus what I expect to see (it may be a bit small though sorry).
Has anyone experienced this before and do you know how to get these options to appear?
Thanks in advance.

Hi dee-em,
So, you see all that information under "Series 2", but not under "Series 1"? What version of BIRT are you using and can you recreate this issue with the sample database?

Hi Michael
Thanks for your reply. I don't see the options under any of the Series - 1 through 3. I snapped the picture of 'what I expected to see' from a different report - so it seems to show in other reports (which access the same database). I will try the Classic Cars database when I get to work and let you know.
Thanks.

Hi again Michael
Forgot to answer your one question. I'm using Eclipse BIRT Designer Version 2.3.1.v20080911 Build <2.3.1.v20080917-1340>
Looking at some of my other reports, I notice some do have the option to change the bar colour, but some don't.
It's almost like the report thinks it is a line chart, not a bar chart.
Strange......

Hi Michael
We've figured it out at last. You are only given the options for a colour change depending on the chart type selected. In this case, the bar chart colours are governed by the Palette colours which can be changed by selecting "Series Palette". Series-1 will be the colour chosen in position 1, Series-2 will be the colour in position 2 in the palette and so on.
Somehow, I must have fiddled around, and, not knowing exactly what I was doing, changed position 1, 2 and 3 to have the same colour. I removed all the colours from the palette and started again and now they have different colours.
So all is fixed now and I'm happy (relieved actually!).
thanks again for your assistance.

Debbie,
I was going to ask you if you had messed with the palette by accident or something. Looks like you figured that out before I got to it.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Michael
It's a PEBCAK error (problem exists between chair and keyboard). You know beginners - a little bit of knowledge is DANGEROUS!!!
Thanks for just being there. It can be a lonely place when you're new!!
Kind regards
Debbie
