Save & Regenerate
mvaidhya
Hi,
We don't want to use the "Generate" button, since it gives the user option to enter a new file name.
I would like to regenerate the page when I edit and save the DCR/DCT. Basically, when I choose the "Save" button (assuming all the entries are valid) , it should also regenerate the page. Is it possible to do this?
Thanks.

Hi mvaidhya,
I'm not sure what version of TeamSite Templating you are using but if you are using the 5.x browser-based templating then this is already in the product. When a user edits an exisitng templated page (i.e. press_release.htm) and clicks on Save and Close, Templating will prompt them if they want to regenerate the page. If they click OK the page will be regenerated.
Thanks.

Thank you for your response.
After editing a DCR/DCT, if I click "Save & Close", I get the "Would you like to submit this for approval? " window instead of asking me to regenerate. Probably a workflow is setup with that action. I need to check that.
Moreover, even when it asks me to regenerate the page, I don't want the user to have an option of entering a file name. For example, if I edit the DCR Test, then Test.htm should be automatically regenerated. It would be nice if we can add another button that reads "Save & Regenerate".
Thanks again!

I would create a workflow that would incorporate the page regeneration. So after they save, close, and approve, a workflow would kick off with a regenerate task. There are plenty of posts about this within the Templating forum.

There have been a number of threads in these forums about disabling the Generate (and/or Preview) buttons within the TeamSite Templating UI - I'd suggest you do a search through the forums to see if you can find any of them and if they help to resolve your issue.
Also - I believe, based quite a bit on the above, that the Interwoven folks are looking for better ways to control this functionality in the future - I don't know when, but if you want to be one of the folks to encourage (and perhaps shape) this functionality - I'd suggest contacting Interwoven Support and asking them to add you to an existing feature request or open a new one for you - be sure to specify clearly what you're looking for.
