Iam highly interrested by this thread, as I initiated a thead like yours<br />

; a few weeks ago.<br />
As the responses, I understood that, there is no many chances to arrive at this goal. My purpose was to oriente columns in a cross tab in the goal to gain space area in the form, but until now, without success.<br />

Good chance.

This would require BIRT to render the table as an image (which it does not). There could be an extension written to ask BIRT to treat the table as a chart, thereby allowing output in a format like SVG. This would make the rotation possible.
Short answer is that this is not supported in the current version of BIRT.

Let's hope it would be in the next version.<br />
Thx for your response.

You can always enter a feature request to the engineering team here: <a class='bbc_url' href='

So now it is almost 2 years from thread started.<br />
Are there any abilities to make rotated text inside some cell in BIRT?<br />
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything. Can any BIRT-guru help me with it?<br />
<br />
I have found one <a class='bbc_url' href='
http://www.eclipse.org/articles/article.php?file=Article-BIRT-ExtensionTutorial1/index.html'>instruction</a>
, but is there any easier way?<br />
<br />
Also suits variant to write some magic property inside XML with simple editor (not with Eclipse designer).<br />

Thanx

So far BIRT doesn't support rotated text. BIRT is build opon the eclipse rich client platform which makes it possible to add new features by writing a plugin. The resource you posted above shows how to create such a plugin for the rich client platform. Building a plugin has nothing to do with BIRt itself, it only uses the interfaces provided by BIRT and shows how to add new functionality to the BIRT designer.
For the rotated text item there is a proof of concept plugin available which shows how to build such a plugin by adding a the rotated text item feature to the BIRT designer.
So you probably could download this plugin and install it to have the ability to rotate text within BIRT Designer. Because each plugin has a strong dependency to the BIRT interfaces you have to make sure to install the right plugin version.
Installing a plugin means to add functionality to BIRt which doesn't exist in the main release. So you have to make sure that the plugin is able to run with a new version of BIRT before upgrading to that version. If that's ok for you just give me some details regarding the version you actually use and i ll have a look for the appropriate plugin.
There is no build in functionality which provides you with a rotated text feature.

Yes, you can rotate text using a custom report item. The plugin is already available free of charge, and it is based on an example given by Jason Weathersby in his book "Integrating and Extending BIRT". It is one of the showcased items in the BIRT Exchange Marketplace, and it is available as a plugin here:
http://www.birt-exchange.com/be/info/birt-controls-lib-app/
Just grab the appropriate version for your version of BIRT, copy it into your plugins folder, and away you go. You will need to do the same thing for your serverside BIRT as well, so if your using the Web Viewer, copy it into the web-inf/plugins folder. Let me know if you are having issues installing, IIRC something isn't right with the instructions on the Google Code site, and I had to help someone a few weeks ago, or search the forums.

Thanx, CBR.
Thanx, johnw.
I'll try this google-code-link plugin then.
If something goes wrong, I'll ask here.
