colspan on table grouping header

I'm trying to have a group header span multiple columns in BIRT.
From the advanced properties section I can see where this is set, but I cannot change it. Its like the property is locked or something.
How can I make my group header span multiple columns in a table?

ok - I think I figured out a way....I hightlighted all the cells, right-clicked and selected "Merge Cells".
Seems like a work-around, but it works...
