Slider gauge and line chart interactivity
bhattinilesh
Hi
We need to plot a graph which is combination of a slider and a line chart.
Line chart shows sales over the period of time.
slider guage shows time frame ex. year 2000 to year 2008
if user scrolls the slider, line chart should get updated accordingly.
ex. if user scrolls to year 2005, line chart should dispaly sales from year 2000 to yr 2005.
We are using Actuate BIRT 2.3.2
Appriciate your respose.
Thanks
Nilesh

Hi Madhu,<br />
You can incorporate flash charts in your reports using Actuate BIRT Report Designer Professional. You can download an evaluation copy of the designer from here:<br />

Hi averma,
Thanks for ur reply.. By the way iam able to incorporate flash chart in BIRT. Iam using the same version what u mentioned.. But i am not able to incorporate the feature like.. Dynamic drag and change of a column implies remaining charts gets refreshed..
Iam not clear on one more aspect. As per the link i specified earlier... is that achievable through BIRT or through FLASH(cos i donno flash..
)

Are you referring to a line chart that has the time scale altered by an on-screen slider bar? Just like Google Finance?
madhu_2009
Hi,<br />
I am not sure about the google finance charts... <br />
Iam exactly looking for a dashboard which is similar to the video in the below link. Just have a look and let me know...<br />
<br />
<a class='bbc_url' href='

<br />
Help required in implementing a similar dashboard.<br />

Hi Madhu,<br />
The example you refer to I believe was a highly customized dashboard and unfortunately I do not have all the details. <br />
<br />
One thing you may want to take a look at is the Mashboard. The Mashboard is a self-contained customization to Actuate Information Console that enables drag-n-drop user defined dashboard ?canvases? of BIRT reports and other Actuate content. The following DevShare link will allow you to download the package, and link to a ton of great documentation in the wiki.<br />
<a class='bbc_url' href='
http://www.birt-exchange.com/devshare/deploying-birt-reports/801-mashboard/#description'>Mashboard
- Other Resources - BIRT Exchange</a><br />
<br />
I would also recomend taking a look at the following two JSAPI items in the DevShare. The first is a video tutorial about embedding BIRT Content into web pages, and the second is a sample implementation of the JavaScript API with a JavaScript slider to dynamically filter both chart and tabular data.<br />
<a class='bbc_url' href='

Slider to Filter Chart and Report Data - Designs & Code - BIRT Exchange</a><br />
<br />
Hope this help!<br />

Hi Madhu,<br />
Rob is spot on with his suggestion, the Mashboard has a built in API to pass events back and forth between BIRT reports containing Actuate FlashObjects, achieving the interactive effect across visualizations that you see in the sample. We call the API the "Portlet Event Communication System, or "PECS".<br />
<br />
Here's a doc on PECS functionality in Mashboard:<br />
<a class='bbc_url' href='
http://www.birt-exchange.com/wiki/Mashboard_PECS/'>Mashboard
PECS - BIRT Wiki - BIRT Exchange</a><br />
<br />
We hope this helps!<br />

Hi Rob,mgamble
Thanks for ur replies... These were really helpful for me..
But the video link seems to be broken.Iam not ablt to view the complete tutorial. Just lemme know where can I download the same.
But when i tried running the second step im getting an error "actuate is undefined". The flash chart is not loaded.
Seems to be some problem in the acload() function,not able to figure out..
Any help in this...

Hi Madhu,<br />
We have hosted the video in a better location. You can now watch the video here:<br />

Is there any tutorial available which shows the functionality similar to:
http://www.actuate.com/democenter/a10/flashdash.swf
Especially one with flash gadgets such as Linear Gauge and Meter.
Thank you.
