Dynamic data source

Hi I am new to Birt, and I am not sure how I should tackle the following problem:

Background story:
The backend engine needs to process the data for each user from db with some java code. Each user will see the report with the same design but different data (which is user specific).

Question:
What's the best (efficient and synchronized) way to present the data in the report? JDBC data sources or scripted ones or something else?
