opening a reportdesign file across machines

friends
how can i open or view a report which i designed in one machine and now want to view the design in another
if i go for file ->open file ,i get the xml view of the rptdesign file..and if i switch to layout ,it displays "error in xml view must be corrected before other pages can be used"
please help

Is the same version of BIRT being used on both machines?

nope its not the same version being used in both the machines
any compatability problem exists???

When you go from a newer version to an older version is usually the only time you'll have an issue with this. You should be able to go to the XML source and change the version info to the version you're using on the second computer, then it should work. Let me know if you have any questions.

you were absolutely correct
i designed it in a higher version and tried opening it with a report designer of lower version

and your suggestion to change the version in the xml file worked.Thanks a lot

now iam able to open the rptdesign file( designed on a higher version designer) with a lower version designer.

Hope this would be useful for other newbies too.
