Teamsite 5.0.x upgrade to 5.5.2
bradp
We have to upgrade our production Teamsite server
from 5.0.x to 5.5.2. It is running on Solaris. We want
to test the upgrade in dev., before doing it on the live box.
The problem is, we only have one development Solaris box.
We have other AIX boxes that are available. The documentation says that two servers are required. Is it possible to use a different OS (such as AIX, or NT) for the
target server, and then back migrate the 5.5.2 install to the
Solaris box ?

You MAY be able to do that, but another option is to do the conversion on your dev Solaris server, but have the conversion go to another backingstore (since 5.5.x allows multiple backing stores). You can even do the conversion at night only, that way it won't interfere with your testing (since both the production and target server have to be down to get the conversion done).

You need two physical machines to do the conversion - and the machine to which you are converting to should be the same architecture as the machine you ultimately want TeamSite to run on. However, it doesn't have to be as fully decked out in terms of memory / disk space as a production system (it should meet minimum requirements though) as you probably won't be accessing it with quite the same load over an extended period of time.
I do not believe that you should try to do a conversion to an AIX machine if you are planning to then move that backing store to a Solaris machine (it *might* work, but I wouldn't count on it unless you get an official response saying so)
Also - Jason - multi-store is a per-store-cost item, not free functionality. It provides for some nice functionality, especially for very large installations - if you're interested please contact your Interwoven Sales representative for details.
