connection profile
Tripathi
I have developed a BIRT report using connection profile.
I have a iportal in workgroup mode on a remote machine, when i put this report on iportal's repository folder and try to view it, it works fine.
Now what my doubt is if there is any modification in my database credential, in that case do i need to make another connection profile and recompile all the reports with the newly created one.
cant i do something wherein i make modification in one location and it reflects at all the places.

You do not need to create a new connection profile and re-bind to your report designs. Using a connection profile basically externalizes the connection properties, so their values can change (within the connection profile store file), and the associated report designs would see its latest values.
To change the connection property values in an exported connection profile, there are alternate ways to do it.
You can use the Data Source Explorer in Eclipse IDE, by first importing the profile(s) from your profile store file, edit the properties, and then re-export the latest profile(s) back to a profile store file. Then re-deploy the latest profile store file with the same file path and name to your iPortal environment.
Alternatively, you can use the connection profile Console Editor tool to quickly adjust the properties of an exported connection profile without having to open Data Source Explorer in the Eclipse workbench.
The Console Editor Application is a system console application to edit the connection profile property values, such as the file path to the JDBC driver JARs, a connection URL, an ODA data source file path, and so on.
You can find its documentation in the Help Contents from your IDE (assuming BIRT all-in-one package is installed).
From the IDE Help menu, select "Help Contents" to bring up the Help dialog.
Look under "Data Tools Platform User Documentation" -> Creating a Connection Profile -> Editing Connection Profile Properties -> Console Editor Application.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your reply.....
your solution works well in windows environment...but the production environment is Linux, so I cant keep the same file location there.
Could you please suggest some work around in this case

Which one of the 2 solutions that I'd described that you'd tried?
I'm not sure what you meant by the same file location cannot be kept in Linux. The updated file should be able to copy over and overwrite the existing file, right?
