How to manipulate BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER, to look for reports in an ear file

Hello all, 
 
I am fairly new to BIRT and have come across an issue. 
 
Configuration 
BIRT 2.3.1 
Weblogic 10.0 
JAVA 1.5.06 
 
For our application we want to keep the birt.war file static. For this we have to deploy the reports under a different war file (birtreports.war) and not as part of birt.war. I have tried to play around with different parameters for BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER and WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY, but nothing seems to work. We do not want to use Absolute path as the reports will be part of a birtreports.war file. 
 
 
Birt.ear is deployed along with our application EAR file and contains 
1> birt.war (contains viewer) 
2> birtreports.war (contains reports) 
 
 
If the reports are under /reports folder in birt.war then I can view the reports using the URL without any problems.

But when the reports are in birtreports.war the URL doesn't work. parameters used are as follows.... 
 
<param-name>BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER</param-name> 
<param-value>birtreports</param-value> 
 
<param-name>WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY</param-name> 
<param-value>true</param-value> 
 
ERROR : 
The report file : /C:/bea/user_projects/domains/enboss/servers/admin/tmp/_WL_user/_appsdir_birt_ear/5os3or/war//birtreportscommentsByTabs.rptdesign does not exist or contains errors. 
 
 
How do I manipulate BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER and WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY to look for reports under birtreports.war? 
Can anybody help me??

I do not think this is possible in 2.3.1. It needs either a full path 
<param-name>WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY</param-name> 
<param-value>false</param-value> 
 
or relative to the current context. 
 
In BIRT 2.3.2 this was changed and if you have 
<param-name>WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY</param-name> 
<param-value>false</param-value> 
 
You can use a url to get the report like: 
<a class='bbc_url' href='http://localhost:8080/2.3.2/frameset?__report=http://localhost:8080/tstwar/TopNPercent.rptdesign'>http://localhost:8080/2.3.2/frameset?__report=http://localhost:8080/tstwar/TopNPercent.rptdesign</a>

Now I have couple more questions working with the same scenario.

1> Would the URL be same if instead of a birtreports.war we create a birtreports.jar? We wanted to see if there is a possibility of being able to deploy the birtreports.jar as a library.

2> WORKING_FOLDER_ACCESS_ONLY is set to FALSE then what would be the parameter for BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER?

Monica,

1 - I do not know of a way you can jar them and then have access to them through a url.

2 - The working folder access only attribute just determines if full specified locations can be entered. If report locations are not specified it should use the birt viewer working folder location to locate your reports.

we're currently using 2.3.0 birt-viewer but in upgrading to 2.3.2 we've noticed a change in how files are addressed.

all our report items are currently stored in a 2deep hierarchy birtReports/APP

our birt_viewer_working-folder is set to

/opt/appdata/IE/uniunit/iegroups/birtReports/IE

when calling a report from a link in 2.3.2 the viewer tries to run the reports from
/opt/appdata/IE/uniunit/iegroups/test/birtReports/resources/../ADM/ie_sis_adm_funnel_dshbrd.rptdesign

where as in the past it would only take the ../ADM/report.rptdesign in the url.

So why is it pre-pending the resources directory to the link path?

our web.inf contains

<context-param>
<param-name>BIRT_VIEWER_WORKING_FOLDER</param-name>
<param-value>/opt/appdata/IE/uniunit/iegroups/birtReports/IE</param-value>
</context-param>

Also if you change the working folder access only to true, did this alter the behavior?
