Query Builder hangs
coolvyakti
I installed the Ganymede BIRT version 2.3.2 on Windows XP from the Eclipse BIRT site.
I created a connection profile to connect to my db2 database. The connection establishment is successful.
I create a new report, choose the connection profile as the datasource.
Then I create a new data set - choose the datasource - proceed to SQL Select Query. I can now select tables, columns etc....I do a simple SELECT using the options in the wizard.
When I hit "finish" - BIRT hangs with an hour glass.
I have tried to restart BIRT - and I get the same result.
Anyone experienced this before and have a work around or remedy for it....I mean for a "mature" product to crash and burn on "step 1" is pretty pathetic.
I have tried looking at "software updates" and none exist...so it seems I am working with the latest and greatest release level BIRT install.
Your help will be very much appreciated.

How many rows is your simple query returning? It could be a memory issue trying to assemble the data set. Try limiting the number of rows fetched initially. This will validate the database communications and allow us to better diagnose what is going on.<br />

Double-click the data set and look for "Settings" on the left side of the window. Here, un-check "<em class='bbc'>Fetch all rows</em>" and enter a reasonable max row count in the text entry field. Re-test the data set by selecting "Preview".<br />

BIRT can handle extremely large data sets, but within the confines of the designer (and in turn a desktop workstation) resources can at times get stressed. Let me know how this test goes and we can dig a bit deeper if needed.

BIRT on my PC crashes on a regular basis (4 times today) and for some reason dings my memory at over 400,000k.
