Newbie Question Re Resizing Columns

Hello, all. I am a BIRT newbie, as in this morning is really my first time using it. I am familiar with Crystal and Access, so I don't think I am a total hopeless case

I am modifying a report that came with an application we use at work. There is a 'table' that I need to resize the columns on, but when I do, the *&^% TABLE changes size, and I CANNOT get it resized normally. Every time I change a column another changes, too! When the report prints it cuts off the right side of the table.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the table width properties? and are you setting column width values or dragging column widths? Are any of the values of the table or column width set to %?

This morning I set every column to 0.25 and still when I preview the report, they all come out different sizes. I thought at first that is corresponded to the length of the column heading, but there are two columns with short colum headings and still not sizing as I set them to. Is there a limitation based on the length of the fields?

What version of BIRT are you using? Sure, attach a screenshot...or a report using the sample database that I can run.

I'm using version 2.3.3.2 because it integrates with IBM Rational development environment. I'm not sure if I can use a higher version.

I am attaching a jpg example of the report. I am trying to size the left columns small and the right larger data field to be much bigger... but I have been tweaking it for hours with no luck.

What is set for the table width? Is it 100%? It may stretching columns to fit the other setting on the whole table. Another option to try is changing the default of Auto Layout to Fixed Layout for the report. To do this, select a blank area within the report, and then on the General properties tab, you can select the layout.

I changed the Layout from Auto to Fixed and that did not seem to correct the issue. I also checked the Table size and the width is set to 10.5 inches which is correct for landscape, but I want the size of the table to simply be the sum of the column sizes. Is that possible? I tried deleting the table size but it populated itself again.

Is it posible for the table width to simply be the sum of the column sizes?

If you manually summed the column sizes and made the table size that big, it should work. Is this not the case?
