Convert a string parameter into a date

hello,

I'm new to BIRT and currently working on a report. Whilst I'm satisfied with the content of the report, I couldn't get the title of the report to display what i want.

Basically, my report has a date parameter (RP_StartDate) and its type is a string. Whilst the conversion into a date format is built into the query, I having trouble to convert this into a date format within the title.
I'd like my report to display: "Report Period: April 2009" given that my RP_StarDate is 01/04/2009.

At the moment, all i can display is "Report period: 4/2009" using:
"Report period: " + params["RP_StartDate"].substr(4.7)
within the experssion builder

Any one can assist?
