Birt image issue while exporting to Excel, Word and PDF

I have Birt report that has logo on the top and the bottom. Also, each row has a small image similar to the one shows next to each member nick name stating whether he/she is online or no. The images in my report are generated dynamically from URI.

The problem is that all images show in the viewer (in all formats). However, after deploying the rpt file to the App server and exporting the report to Word, Excel or PDF using Birt Engine, none of the images show including the logos.

In Excel, it shows "<<Unsupported Image>>" message in the place of each image. In Word and PDF there is no message or any thing else indicating the existence of images on the report.

Any idea how can this issue be resolved?

I'm using 3.2.17 to generate rpt files and 3.2.16 on the server (i.e. Birt Engine).

By the way, when I use embedded images, they show on Word and PDF but not on Excel reports. But since most images are dynamic (based on if conditions), they must be URI.

forgot to mention that the header and footer have GIF format while other images have PNG format.
