week-of-month in crosstabs
ldavey
Can someone shed some light on the ?week-of-month? dimension grouping in crosstabs? Does the week grouping start on Monday? How does Birt handle the weeks at both ends of the month where there is not a full week at the beginning or end of the month? For example, the first day of the month starts on a Thursday, or the last day of the month is a Friday? If these beginning and end weeks are being grouped as less than 7 days, is there a way to test for the number of days that are in these partial weeks?

Hi ldavey,
I believe that these are figured by actual week. If the 1st of a month is on a thursday, then the 1st through the 3rd would be in the 1st week and so on. What are you trying to do that requires knowing the number of days in the partial week?

I'm trying to calculate mean time to failure for a computer system, which is (report period in hours) / (number of failures). This spans over several months and is grouped by week, so if for example, week 5 of March 2009 is only 2 days long, I would need to know this and calculate the report period as 24*2. Is there any way to test what Birt is returning for the number of days in the week-of-month?

ldavey,
I don't know that there's a pre-made way to figure this out in BIRT. I would think that you'd be able to some simple scripting to figure this out using the date, the week, and the day of week though.
