Web CMS (TeamSite)
ONE workarea but N sites (arrgl)
meikel
Hi,
my cheap customer has only one workarea for me, but wants to realize a several sites (about five to eight).
Each site should have two languages (german/english).
Some of the content (i.e. news or jobs) are similar (same DCT, but different DCR).
How can I handle that?
(I thought about subdirectories for each site and subsubdirectories for the language.)
regards
meikel

Uhm - workareas and even branches - do not cost money (multiple backing stores do, but not workareas and branches).
This is not a case of being cheap, it's a case of not using the functionality of the product in the way that it was designed, nor in the best manner for the work that is expected to be done.
I suggest you work on educating your customer - and if they still insist that you do things this way, they might not get the results they want.
The languages can be handled in one workarea - for those, you probably *do* want to use directory structures using locale-oriented names (e.g. en_us, de_de?) as that would probably ultimately be the actual structure of the web site.
But for each 'site' - you should have a separate branch (you could still utilize one workarea per branch though)
If re-design is going on at the same time as current development - there should be at least two workareas on the branch - but better would be to have a sub-branch for the re-design so that you can submit work to staging without affecting current development.
