Hi,

If you add the data source to a Report Library, you sure can. You can re-use just about any BIRT component via report libraries. It is one of the most powerful components of the architecture.

Here are some resources to help you down the path:
Good Luck!

hey thanks,

I tried this. I have created a data store and exported it into a library. When designing a new report I need to open that library and drag/copy that data store into current report.

Is there any better way..

I am just a beginner, and using BIRT preinstalled in Eclipse.

Also would like what is the difference between Eclipse BIRT and Actuate BIRT, is it licensed

Thanks again for you quick response.
Hi Mady,

You should be able to access the library in the "Resource Explorer" in the designer. You shouldn't have to open the library to access the dataSource you have stored in there.

As for the difference between Eclipse BIRT and Actuate BIRT, Eclipse BIRT is the open source version offered through the Eclipse Foundation and Actuate BIRT is the commercial version that is licensed by Actuate. It has a couple thing different from the Eclipse version, such as the offering of flash charts/objects. You can download a 45 day free trial of Actuate BIRT here if you want to check it out:
There is not a different way to share components other than using them from a library as you have done. Is there some mechanism you are looking for and not finding? Perhaps if I better understand what you would like to see the tool do I can give you some other ideas.
