HELP! Need help to start creating a report
catherine
Hi I'm current using rational team concert standard edition. I need to create a report and show it in rational team concert. I understand I can create a report using xml, but where can i create it so I can save it as a .rptdesign file? in BIRT? Which version?
After I created the report what should I do? Please advise me. I need to do it urgently. thanks!

Hi catherine,
BIRT reports are of file type .rptdesign, so, yes, you would use BIRT to create that file type. Do you know what version of BIRT your version of Rational Team Concert supports?

Hi thanks for your reply. I got no idea which version of BIRT my RTC supports. I'm currently using RTC 1.0.1.1 Standard edition. I would like to know the steps.

Is it,
1.) create a report using BIRT?
2.) deploy it when I create a report template in RTC

?

Also do I need to have database to create the report. I would just like to create a simple report with just a few words etc.

Thanks.
Yes, you'll need to create the report with BIRT, then deploy the report to your application. That should be all you'll need to do. I have not used RTC to deploy a report before. You'll probably want to check out the documentation for RTC for more information on that. I believe BIRT does require that you be connected to a dataSource of some sort, though you don't have to use the source in your report.
