True Type fonts

I went through the forums and found that the setEmbeddedFont option is no longer available. Our issue is that we run millions of reports and we cannot embed fonts without clogging the printers with information. Before Birt, we used sqr to create reports that only used type 1 fonts with the afm files created for linux.

Are type 1 fonts supported in Birt and will it continue to be supported. I have read that Actuate 10 will not support type 1 fonts and was wondering does this extend to the Birt Report Engine.
