How to extend existing Report item in Birt

hi everyone,

We have some customer specific requirement to enhance the birt.
We want to extend the existing birt items.

for example-- for border style there is only rectangles available in birt. We want to add circular box as border which we cant do currently.

Anyone who has developed such functionality can give us some pointers for this.

this is just an example. We want to extend some of the report items such as images types supported in birt etc.
