Dynamic Parameter downgrades the performance

Hi All

I have a query in BIRT IOB where the query works fine when a Parameter is user entry (textbox) in the Report, Worst performance for the List box parameter for which the values are populated from the DB.
But my requirement is to generate a List box with all the values from the database for the user to chose single/ Multiple values from the Parameter.
I am actually using the SQL Injection method to include the where clause based on the parameter for the Dataset preparation.
But for the parameter page population, it runs for a Loooooong time and it is throwing Exception Timed Out error.
There is also other date Parameter present in the Report.
Please suggest a method when used the performance will be faster??
