Accessing DataSource Wizard property (Xtended ODA plugin)

Hi,
I am a complete newbie to writing ODA plugins. I went thru the Webinar on this site on creating sample UI & Runtime plugins for extending ODA. I wanted to know how can i access a text property which appears in the "add new datasource" wizard. The property was added by me to an existing eclipse extension point. I went thru similar code and found the following statement:
Properties dataSourceProps = getInitializationDesign().getDataSourceDesign().getPublicProperties();

But it isnt working. Plz help me with this and I would also appreciate some more tutorials and links which I thought are hard to find, thanks
