iwatsub trigger

All,

I am a little confiused aS to how to get the iwatsub.exe trigger to work. I noticed a KB article (1424) on how to make it work on NT, but are those instructions necessary? Addtionally we use W2K. Initially I just want to dump the parameters to a text file, but again I am not sure how to set this up.

Any help on this would be great!

I have successfully setup an iwatpub service on our NT box, but wasnt able to figure out the iwat command from the documentation. Its not very clear... Does iwat still get setup as a service?

No. "iwat" registers your trigger within iwserver, and iwserver will invoke your trigger program at the appropriate time.

For your first attempt, I suggest you use a simple program like:
[/usr/iw-home/local/bin/pubtrigger.ipl]

if (open(X, ">/tmp/iwat.log")){
    for (my $i = 0; $i < @ARGV; $i++){
        print X "[$i]: '$ARGV[$i]'\n";
    }
    close(X);
}

Then do something like:

% iwat PublishStagingArea /usr/iw-home/local/bin/pubtrigger.ipl

Then publish an edition from your staging area and look at the log file produced.

If you're on windows - you'll have to adjust the above accordingly, especially the command:

C:\> iwat PublishStagingArea "c:/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl c:/iw-home/local/bin/pubtrigger.ipl"

Note: there is a bug filed against the documentation (34340) for saying "iwat.ipl", "iwlsat.ipl", and "iwrmat.ipl" - these are all binaries [.exe].

Note: there is a bug filed against the documentation for not providing more information about how the command works / is used (25337)

It is quite simple. To log it to a text file just use >> a.txt ayt the end of the command( this is on the console)

No. Once you register your trigger program, it persists in iwserver. The registry is actually in the backing store along with everything else, so be assured that it persists, just as your content does.

"iwlsat" shows you all the registered programs (think "ls" on UNIX).

"iwrmat" removes a registered trigger (think "rm" on UNIX).

This simplpe scripts that check the arguments passed only seems to work for the PublishStagingArea event. I can't get a log print for Unlock or Submit. Is there a list of the event patters? I am looking at the iwevents.log and I don't seem to be doing anything different.

Any ideas here?
