Howto free users from one option choices?

Hi BIRT experts,

I am currently designing a report where I use a cascading parameter group to fetch options from the database depending on another report parameter. This works great. However, due to the kind of the parameters the user will only have one choice for each cascaded parameter.

This leads to an excess of unnecessary clicking so I wonder if I can do this using a script. So how do I execute the queries in a script and extract their result? How can I use these result to set them as report parameter (used in dataset parameters)?
