JDBC Exception in One report...but not others

I've built an application which allows users to easily generate reports. I am using the reporting engine through the RE API. I have the reports configured to get the JDBC connection information from report parameters. 
 
What is happening, which is very strange, is that some reports work perfectly. Others get a JDBC exception:

This just recently started happening since I upgraded to 2.5.0. It seems it only happens to reports that have been built with the new designer, but I could be wrong. The data source itself is stored in a report library. All of the reports use the same data source, only a few (newer) reports are having this problem.

I've got a (web) application which allows users to easily generate reports, I am also using the reporting engine through the RE API and the reports are extracting data from a mysql-database.

Most reports work, but sometimes I get the error/exception you posted. After this error has occured once, it seems like birt can't connect to a db anymore, a restart of tomcat is the only thing that has worked so far.

If anyone has any input to this problem, it would be much appreciated.

Hi sowelie,

It might be too late, but can you post your RE API code? It looks like the Data Set might not be getting assigned (or assigned correctly) to the Report Design.

I have also noticed that other error in the Designer. It seems like if BIRT cannot connect to the database once, any subsequent calls will fail too. I have noticed that if I wait for 5 or 10 minutes, then it will work again. Otherwise, I have to restart the designer. There must be a setting somewhere, but haven't had time to find it.
