Cross Tab with String as summary field

I'm trying to find a way to put a 'String' field in a summary field. 
 
I don't have any errors when i create my datacube. The issue I have happens when the cross tab is generated. 
 
Here is a little example : 
 
My data set : 
ID - FIELD - VALUE 
01 - A - String01A 
01 - B - String 01B 
02 - A - String02A 
 
What I'm expecting : 
Field 'ID will defines the rows 
Field 'FIELD' will defines the columns 
 
When I try to drag 1 group from my datacube into the cross tab to define columns or rows, it works well. But when I try with both it doesn't work any more.

Hi Matthieu,

Are you setting the function on the summary field to "FIRST", so that it doesn't try to do math on a string?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Unfortunately I already tried the 'FIRST' function and it failed.
This is weird, because, I can't drag the 3 fields at the same time. When I declare columns and rows it works I my grid is generated.
It works also when I declare only rows or columns and show the values.
I also tried to use the 2 groups I declared in my datacube to define the rows and it works! I really do not understand what is going on.

EDIT :
It works when I try to use the 'ID' field to define the columns and 'FIELD' to declare the row but I don't want it in this way. When I switch the two groups, it fails again.

I set this up with ID, Field, and Value all as type string. Made a dataCube with Value as the measure with the function of FIRST. Then, placed the ID in the row dimension area of the crosstab, the Field in the column dimension area of the crosstab, and the Value in the summary area and it worked as expected. Attached is the flat file and report design I used. I used BIRT 2.3.2.2. Let me know if it doesn't work for you.

I solved the problem but I don't really understand how.
I made my cross tab by switching columns and rows. Then I dragged the summary field.
After that, I switched rows and columns aggregation item.

I don't know how neither why, but it works now

I have followed the instruction about FIRST function, and it works. But from my side, the data table look like this:
 
ID -- TagName -- TagValue
1 -- StringTag -- string1
1 -- StringTag -- string2
2 -- NumberTag -- 123
2 -- NumberTag -- 45
 
FIRST or LAST only display first or last TagValue, how can I achieve this in datacube:
 
ID -- StringTag -- NumberTag
1 -- string1, string2 --
2 -- -- 123, 45
 
 
Please help or guide me to the thread.

I have the same problem as the last post and I would like to know is there any ways to have an out put like mentioned above?
Date -- Category -- Icon

 and in my cross tab i need to have something like this:

To Tamnguyen:
 You can't automatically use your source data to get what you want because the crosstab control doesn't support this type of aggragate operation. So you could first transform the source data to a dataset with the following format, and then present it with a crosstab:
 
ID TagName Values
1 StringTag string1,string2
2 NumberTag 123,45
 
It's not so convenient to do that with a report script. Let's get it in esProc:
A1=$select ID, TagName, TagValue from tb
A2=A1.group(ID, TagName; ~.(TagValue).string():values)
 
BIRT can access esProc code via JDBC. You can find similar examples at <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://blog.raqsoft.com/?p=4744'>http://blog.raqsoft.com/?p=4744</a> .

As what we do with the first problem , you can also use esProc to convert the source data to a two-dimensional table with a desired format and present data using table control:
A1=$select Date, Category , Icon from tb
A2=A1.group(Date;~.(Category).string():Cats,~.(Icon).string():Icons)
 
Here "~" represents each group of records after grouping. "(Category)" means getting a set of field values. The "string" function compose the members of the set into a string, delimited by the comma.
