Delayed publishing

Hi,

In my project, the requirement is that a file should only be uploaded at a specific date and time, that the user will choose when creating/ editing the file.
Can this be configured using the Workflow Builder, or in any other way in Open Deploy?
Is this technically possible? Smiley Happy

This is definitely possible, I do this in multiple workflows (but maybe there is an easier way than what I do). You probably want to add a TAG_info to your .wft that prompts the user to select a date (if you are using metatagger or templating to capture the data that might be a better place to capture the date, but then you should parse the data and check the dates on all files and implement a rule to use the first or last date). Then set that date as a workflow variable on the job. Put an externaltask followed by a user/grouptask before the submittask before the externaltask that does the deployment. The new externaltask will look at the job variable and set the timeout associated with the user/grouptask (if there is no job variable set the timeout to immediate). The user/grouptask has a timeout transition that activates the submittask that does the deployment (it also has a successorset that activates the submittask, in case the user/group wants to force publication before the date).

Something like that anyway. It may sound more complicated than it actually is.

Also I would not recommend Workflow Builder; it would be nice to hear comments from others on this issue.

Hi,
we did it with an external task parsing the metadata publish/delete date contained in our xmls.
It's setting up an at job activating OD.
I think in the actual OD 5.6 you can start scheduled Deploments with parameters (your filelist i.e),
does anybody work with it?

To incorporate delays in my workflows, I use a cgitask in conjunction with a cron job that wakes up every minute to check if there are any tasks in "delay mode" and if so, does the right thing. It's nice because it allows a user to make changes to the delay time at any point prior to the chosen delay time and to also say "screw it, just deploy right now" if they wish. It is a little primitive but it works well for my customers.
