Remote SMTP server setup
TSONG
I am testing iServer express (evaluation) and would like to test sending the reports with email using SMTP. I tried to use the configuration console to setup the SMTP server however there is no password field for the setup. I tried to connect to another SMTP server local that requires no password and the sending email worked. With the SMTP server I am trying to use, I cannot send out the email and I think it is due to the fact that I have no place to put in the password for the remote SMTP server.
I am looking into purchasing the product if I can figure out the issue. And we are hoping that we can deploy it to our server as soon as possible. So any help is very much appreciated.

Hi Tracy,
You run iServer Express as a service using the same account that is used for sending out emails so there is no need to specify the password again in the configuration console. Assuming you are using windows you can configure iServer Express to run as a service by right clicking on "Actuate iServer Express" Service entry and selecting properties. Once in the properties go to the "log on" tab and here you can specify the user id and password for running the service. Also make sure this user has an email account set up in the SMTP server.

Hi Ashwini,
I think the user name, password is being talked is related to Microsoft exchange server. But what if we want to use some public SMTP server like that of gmail /yahoo etc .In those cases, we will be required to pass the password and that can be the different one from the Windows user account ?
