working w group aggregates in birt 2.3.2
cardinal
looking to do this...
(Max([col_a]) + Max([col_b])) - ( Sum([col_c]) + Max([col_d]) + Max([col_e]) + Max([col_f]))
in the Group footer for every group. the details are actually supressed, and only the group footer is displayed in the report.
also, i suspect the solution must be solved programatically... can someone post a link, if they have one, to a tutorial like "getting started w scripts & variables in birt"?
thanks!

Hi cardinal,<br />
<br />
Take a look at the following items for help with scripting:<br />

There are also many other examples in the devShare that you can look at to see how to do specific things that are often times handles with script.<br />

Also, if you attach some sample data and what you'd like it to look like, I can try to put together an example for your exact scenario from this thread.

Thank you for the links!
As far as sample data, I'm not sure what format to post it in - let me know what would be best and i can gladly provide it. we're using numerous oracle tables.
We're running into this is because we have child records, so we use the same table twice (that is linked through an "ancestor table"). The child records have only labor data assigned to them, no material data. So we need to sum the labor values from the children, but the rest of the data we can take from the "parent" record.
In the screenshot here, we need to populate the "remaining" value...
which would be this...
[[total_bid]) +[co_total]) - ( Sum([labor_act]) + [mat_act] )
or maybe:
(Max([total_bid_cost]) + Max([adjustments_total])) - ( Sum([labor_costs]) + Max([material_costs]) )
Either way, the goal is to work with existing existing group totals in a formula, to be displayed in the group footer.
thanks!

cardinal,
You could post a .csv file of data how your data looks in your dataSet. Then, based off that data, let me know what you want the report to look like.
cardinal
this is what i'm trying to do....
mwilliams
Cardinal,
Take a look at this report design. Be sure to change the dataSource's file location to wherever you save the text file. I did the aggreagations in the table to match the "what you want it to look like" file from above. This required me to use the aggregation of "first" in the "Mat" columns because your values in your text file were the "values you wanted to see" on every line, unlike the other columns, where it was the sum of all the values. Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry, forgot to do the grand total line.
