hyperlink to subreport using url option
chrisp
hi,
can you advise if it is possible to hyperlink to a subreport, using the url option instead of the drill-through option? If it is possible, how are the parameters passed through?
would appreciate assistance on the above.

Hi Chris, Yes, you can construct the URL yourself with the URI option... then assemble the parameters in name/value pairs at the end of the URL, like below, using the expression builder.<br />
<br />
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>http://localhost:8080/birtweb/frameset?__report=test.rptdesign&my_Param=myvalue</pre>
<br />
You can also use a Text control, switch it to HTML... and construct the entire anchor <A> tag youself if you need that level of flexibility.<br />
<br />
I'm moving this thread to the Designing BIRT Reports forum

hi virgil,
thank you very much for your advice.

Hi,<br />
<br />
I tested one of our existing report with the code (<a class='bbc_url' href='
http://localhost:8080/birtweb/frameset?__report=test.rptdesign&my_Param=myvalue'>http://localhost:8080/birtweb/frameset?__report=test.rptdesign&my_Param=myvalue</a>)
as suggsted and it worked.<br />
<br />
However, when I tried it with a master report calling a sub report through the use of a hyperlink, the sub report will only display the default value of the parameter and not the value of the calling (master) report's parameter.<br />
When the default value of the subreport's parameter is removed, I got an error message after clicking on the hyperlinked field of the master report.<br />
<br />
I then changed the hyperlink option to the "drill-through" option and then ran the master and sub reports with the parameter from the master report passed through successfully. The sub report did not have a default value for the parameter and the "is required" and "hidden" checkboxes ticked.<br />
<br />
Is there a way of passing the parameter from the master report to the sub report without the user having to enter the value again in the sub report when using the uri option?

Hi chrisp,
When you are constructing your URL (are you using that option in the Text control), make sure you use the Dynamic Text drop down, select VALUE-OF, and then pick your table binding and the correct row value you want to pass to your subreport.
