BIRT-only-based Application
louedy
Hi,
I know BIRT is for reporting on web pages but I was wondering if BIRT can be used to build a web based application, from menu (or tabs), data entry forms, to (of course) reports.
Any comments?
Thanks.

Hi louedy,
BIRT can create reports, of course, that are viewed over the web, with or without a menu bar... but BIRT also has the ability to integrate other HTML/JavaScript within it. Because of this, BIRT can be used to create HTML pages with grids, and nested grids, and can contain virtually anything else you would generally include in a web page. There is an easily overlooked control in BIRT called the "Text" control which allows you to include HTML or JavaScript within it. I have seen this Text control used to integrate Google maps into a web page. I have also seen various flavors of Tabs within a report that are used for navigation.
