PDF export Auto Page Orientation

BIRT 2.3.2.1

I have designed a BIRT sample report (attached). The Master page Orientation is set to Auto. The report has too many columns to fit on the potrait setup, so when I export the report to PDF I would expect the orientation to be automatically be set to landscape. But I do not see that happen...

Does the Auto option ever work in the birt version mentioned above. Is this a bug?
