Hi everyone,
I apologize if this question was asked recently but I could not find a recent answer on this site or google. I am looking to convert my company's report process over from Business Objects XI to BIRT. I am currently familiarizing myself with the tool but I can't seem to find the semantic layer creator for BIRT. In BO XI, we use Designer to define data source and tables and BO auto generate the sql as we drag and drop objects on the report. Past posting indicate that this feature would be added in the future for BIRT. My question is, has it? I can't seem to find any info about this. Any help in point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi vxp8602,<br />
<br />
Open Source BIRT does not use a Universe but connects directly to a data source. There are some extraction layers, for instance, a developer can create a SQL Query, stored it in a library, and then expose the Alias names of fields to someone assembling the report.<br />

Since you are comparing Business Objects semantic layer, then you should look at the Information Objects Designer that Actuate makes available to BIRT reporting. <a class='bbc_url' href='
