Hyperlinks in Word documents not working
B80116
One of our TeamSite users created a MS Word document which contains hyperlinks to other MS Word documents. So, basically, she has a Word document which is an index page to other Word documents. She uploaded all the files to her workarea in TeamSite.
If she clicks on the name of the index page file (indexpage.doc) in the TeamSite GUI, the default web browser (IE) will open and display the index page Word document. So far, no problem.
But if she then clicks on any of the hyperlinks contained on the index page, she gets the error message "Unable to open <path and filename>. The site reports that the item you requested could not be found. http 1.0 404". The error message is contained in a Word pop-up message box.
The user works at a remote site, so I cannot see any of this first hand. I also cannot duplicate the problem myself; everything works fine for me (of course) when I log in to TeamSite and go to her workarea. So, thinking the problem must be a Word or IE configuration problem on her workstation, I tried unsuccessfully to find a solution online (so far I've tried Microsoft's website and Google Newsgroups for help).
Then, to try to diagnose the problem, I created a Word document myself containing hyperlinks to a few web sites and sent the document to her. I had her open the document in her web browser and click the hyperlinks, and they worked. In other words, I took TeamSite out of the loop, and she didn't have a problem. So that got me thinking that maybe the problem is related to TeamSite somehow.
Does anyone have any ideas for fixing this problem?
Thanks.
(PS - Please disregard the whole issue of "why the heck is she using Word documents with hyperlinks - why doesn't she just make web pages with hyperlinks?" It's a long story . . .)

Are the links relative path links? how are the word files deployed? Perhaps she's got absolute links that don't resolve properly?
When you say you tried this yourself were you able to use TeamSite and the same word file and have all the links work?
I'm assuming you are both on the same TS server as well. Any other clues you can give us?

Can you post a few of the links contained in the index document ? (You can strip off company name, etc. from the link). Do the links contain the CCI link to the document ?

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this problem. Here is some more info:
The links are relative path. I asked the user to hover her cursor over the links in the Word doc and read them to me, and they are resolving to valid links. But when she clicks on them, she gets the "Unable to open" error message I described earlier.
With regards to deployment: The files are on the TS server; that is, they have not yet been deployed to the web server. The user uploaded the files to the TS server by selecting "File | Import Files . . ." from the File dropdown menu in the TS GUI.
When I said I tried this myself, I did indeed mean that I was able to use TS and the same Word files as the user, and all the links worked correctly.
The user and I are on the same TS server.
We are not using the CCI interface.
Our TS version is v5.5.2. I have asked the user to send me the versions of IE and Word she is using.

Ok, thanks for the additional data. This capability of TeamSite goes through proxy. There might be data in the proxy log. You also might ask her to try other features that use the proxy server, such as CCI. It's possible that the other user's net config is different from yours (router, etc), that could (albeit a longshot) be part of the problem.

Lissa, thanks for the tips. If we ever get this resolved, I'll let you know what we found out.
