Saving reports in BIRT Interactive Viewer

If I understand correctly, when a user saves their custom report using Interactive Viewer, a COPY of that report is saved, another rpt file.

This means that if we need to make an edit to the template report, it won't take effect on all report using that template because we just can't edit all the copies.

Is there a way to save just a set of parameters, when using the IV, that will just generate the same report from the same template with those parameters?

We're not using the IV yet, just seeing if its the right fit, so please let me know if my understanding is wrong.

Anyone have any ideas on if we can save custom reports in some method other than as a copy of the original report? Is a pretty important consideration for us! Thanks.
